Chemical industry
Butyric acid is one of the important chemical raw materials, butyric acid cellulose ester and its derivatives have good light and heat resistance, suitable for outdoor coatings, such as cable coating paint, equipment coating and aircraft wing coating, can also be used for painting and molding. Cellulose acetate butyrate can dissolve in many solvents and resin, plastic intermixing ability is stronger than cellulose acetate ester, and has a high moisture resistance. They also have excellent formability and shape stability, this kind of plastic is suitable for dry extrusion, even if the processing of longer objects can ensure the shape is intact, often used in the manufacture of toothbrush handles, construction cardboard, handrails, colored flash lampshades, buttons, instrument housing, safety hats, glasses and fire equipment and other daily necessities. It can also be used in varnishes, emulsifiers and extractants, and as a decalcifier in leather tanning. Electrolysis is often used to eliminate the influence of iron in the determination of copper.
Food use
Butyric acid in food is mainly used to produce ester products as food additives and flavors, butyric acid esters have a pleasant fruit flavor, is used as a food additive. For example, methyl butyrate has the flavor of apple, ethyl butyrate has the flavor of pineapple, isoamyl butyrate has the flavor of Sydney, and butyamide compounds have the flavor of chili. Linalyl butyrate is also used in daily flavor.
Butyric acid is a permitted edible spice in China and is commonly used to enhance butter, cheese and fruit flavors. Dosage according to normal production needs, generally 82 mg/kg in candy; 60 ~ 270 mg/kg in chewing gum; 32 mg/kg in baked goods; 18 mg/kg in margarine; Cold drink 6.5 mg/kg.
Butyrate ions and similar butyrate ions are said to enhance intestinal health in humans and many other animal species, and bacteria in the gut produce butyrate from dietary fiber, especially fiber in legumes and nuts, short-chain fatty acid salt, or butyrate, plays a key role in human intestinal health, affecting immune regulation, cell differentiation, and apoptosis. It’s also the carbon source of choice for colon cells.
Medical field
Butyric acid is mainly used in the preparation of medical intermediates, such as gamma-aminobutyric acid has a significant effect on the anti-hypoxia ability of carassius auratus; (R) -2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrate ethyl ester is an important intermediate used in the synthesis of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) such as Benazepril, Enalapril, Lisinopril, Ramipril, etc. This class of drugs is mainly used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and congestive heart failure. Alkyl-substituted gamma-aminobutyric acid derivatives have certain effects on neuropathy.
