Application:
). Topical pain and itch relief: used in topical ointments and patches (e.g., cool oil, pain relief ointment) to relieve pain and itching (e.g., mosquito bites, muscle aches and pains) by stimulating the skin's cold sensory receptors.
). Respiratory relief: added to inhalers, nasal patches or cough syrups to relieve nasal congestion and cough caused by colds, or used as an adjunctive treatment for chronic pharyngitis.
). Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial: a small number of studies have shown that it has some antibacterial activity, and can be used in oral care (e.g. mouthwash) or skin antibacterial products.
). Flavor additive: widely used in chewing gums, candies, ice cream, beverages (e.g., mint tea, cola) to provide a refreshing taste; used in baking to flavor pastries and chocolates.
). Natural preservatives: some studies show that its volatile components can inhibit the growth of microorganisms in food (e.g., oxidation of fats and oils), but the actual application is less, and it is used more as a flavor substance.
). Oral care: main ingredient in toothpaste and mouthwash, imparts freshness and inhibits oral bacteria.
). Skin Care & Toiletries: Added to creams, lotions, shampoos and body washes to provide a cooling sensation, often used in summer products or oil-control and acne-removing skin care products.
). Perfume and Aromatherapy: Used as a center or top note spice to increase the cool level of the aroma, or used in aromatherapy candles and air fresheners.
). Tobacco industry: as a cigarette flavor to improve the taste of cigarettes and reduce throat irritation.
). Insect repellent: its volatile odor can briefly repel mosquitoes, used in natural insect repellent products (e.g. mosquito repellent liquid, balm).
). Feed additive: added in small amounts to livestock and poultry feed to improve palatability and promote appetite.
